Your character is one thing that defines you. It is either pleasant or not. Character is built over the years. It started when you were very young. Parents usually take the greatest part of a person's character formation. What they taught them during his younger years will serve as his foundation for his future character.
Although character is influenced by others, it is still the person's decision on what trait to acquire. But most of the time, he adapts certain unpleasant traits unnoticeably which makes him insensitive to others responses to the way he deals with them.
For some, what others say does not matter. But for most, it is often worthwhile to hear what others think of you. It is a great way of knowing yourself better and learning how others perceive you. It is also an opportunity to clear some misconception about you and hear some suggestion on how you can improve yourself. This does not mean that you have to change into someone you are not. And try not to resist what you will hear. It is often difficult to hear unpleasant things about you from someone, but you have to be open to that before change can take place.
Your character says a lot about who you are. And since it is something you have developed during your lifetime, it is difficult to change when you found out that only few people can stand it. If you want to change, you have to assess yourself and listen to what others have to say. It would be better if you talk to someone you can trust and do your best to change for the better.
